Design and manufacture of industrial fans
The design and manufacture of industrial fans is our speciality. We are able to offer fans up to 2 metres in diameter and pressures up 2000 mm swg. Our fans are built to a very high standard, for extreme conditions. One example being the Inert Gas Fans we supply for use on the Inert Gas Systems on marine oil tankers.
Inert Gas Fans are built using materials such as duplex stainless steel, aluminium nickel bronze and 316L stainless steel. The casing being fabricated from heavy gauge mild steel, and coated with either glass flake, GRP or ebonite lined.
The fans can be supplied with the impellers mounted directly on to the motor shaft, between bearings or overhung on an oil lubricated bearing assembly.
In addition to the marine fans we supply a range of fans for use in various industries, from small blowers for cooling plant, to large fans for process engineering, aluminium plug impellers and axial fans for industrial freezers.

Onsite servicing
On site fan maintenance is a serious Health and Safety issue. Depending on its application, a fan can have a life span of more than forty years, and during its life without proper maintenance a fan can suffer from a variety of problems, dirt collecting on the impeller throwing the fan out of balance, leading to bearing or motor failures. If a problem is discovered with a fan, it is important that a qualified engineer is called to inspect the unit as soon as possible. Since neglecting to maintain a fan correctly, can lead to a catastrophic failure of the fan, which could cause damage to adjacent plant, or at worst injury to personnel. Catching a problem early will save the customer both time and money.
Royston Fan offers the customer the opportunity to have their fans serviced and repaired on site by our highly trained engineers. The types of maintenance performed by our highly trained engineers include impeller balancing, vibration analysis, cleaning, precision coupling alignment, replacement of bearings, drives, motors or any other parts that have been worn or damaged during use. We are able to respond quickly to customer calls getting their plant up and running with the minimum of downtime.
With our skilled work force we are able to duplicate all fan parts, whether they are of our design or not, in most cases responding quicker and being more cost effective than the original manufacturer.
During the servicing of a customers fan we are able to dynamically balance the running assembly, using our Schenk portable balancing equipment. On completion of any service work we will submit a full written report including the residual out of balance of the rotor, having balanced it to BS5265: Part 1: 1979 balance quality Grade 2.5 or 6.3 which ever is appropriate.

Dynamic balancing in house
Dynamic balancing of customers equipment whether it is fan impellers, pump impellers, electric rotor assemblies, rollers or flywheels. This is a service offer in house on our Hoffman HL22 dynamic balancing machine, enabling us to balance impellers of up to 1500mm diameter and to balance impellers to within 0.5 gm on the radius, and knowing that the majority of the time these balancing jobs are breakdowns, we can offer a rapid turn around and if required a “While-u-wait” service.
Dynamic balancing on site.
On occasions it is not possible to extract the fan impeller and deliver to us for balancing, so Royston Fan Company have invested in Schenk portable balancing equipment, enabling us to balance customers fans on site. We offer a very rapid response and will travel anywhere at any time to dynamically balance fans, ensuring the minimum amount of downtime possible.
Condition monitoring.
We now offer an additional service to our customers, where we attend site on a regular basis and do condition monitoring, this is a maintenance process where the condition of equipment with regard to overheating and vibration is monitored for early signs of impending failure. Sophisticated instrumentation is used, to measuring the vibration levels on rotating machinery. Monitoring the vibration level trends over a period of time enables the operator to predict when the machine will fail, giving an early warning system enabling the problem to be rectified before it fails, this is an effective form of predictive maintenance.
